My name is Lenny.
I am a California Desert Tortoise.
My scientific name is Gopherus Agassizii.

My shell is 10 inches long and I weigh about 3½ pounds.
I am between 10 and 50 years old, and may live to be 100!

We live in the deserts in southern California. We eat the grass, weeds, cacti and flowers which grow there, and sometimes fruit which has fallen on the ground (no meat please).

The California Desert Tortoise is California's state reptile.
It is an endangered species, and is protected by law.
