My Favorite Pets

When I was a little girl, I thought that all turtles were green and swam in ponds. I did not know that God made so many different types of turtles.

I have learned that turtles come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Some are very small; others can weigh hundreds of pounds. Some are almost flat while others have shells that are very tall. Some are very plain, almost all one color. Others have bright and beautiful markings.

Turtles live on nearly every continent, except Antarctica, in streams and ponds, on mountains and in marshes, in deserts and in tropical jungles, as well as in the oceans around the world. Some turtles live where it is hot and dry, while others live where the winters get very cold.
