Hi. I'm glad you stopped by. Just a little bit about me -- While I was born in Salt Lake City, I really grew up here in San Jose. I lived in the same house from the time I was 4 years old until I graduated from Branham High back in 1970. I went to UCSD for 2 years (back when there were less than 5,000 students!) but I graduated from San Diego State with a BSEE in 1977. I really enjoyed San Diego, but there was no work available down there at that time, so my husband and I moved back to San Jose, where I went to work for IBM while he took classes at Evergreen.
My husband of 27 years is a mechanical designer. We have 3 children. Our oldest is a son who is 21 and who was a student at West Valley until his Marine Reserve unit got called active earlier this month. So, he will be taking time off from his studies and working at Camp Pendleton for a year (at least I hope he gets to stay there). Then there is our daughter, who is 19, and who is in her junior year at San Diego State. She is majoring in Public Administration with a minor in Marketing. Also, we have a 13-year-old son who attends Herman Intermediate. He is the one who keeps us on our toes.
My oldest son introduced me to the world of turtles about 5 years ago. We now have over 30 turtles, half a dozen tortoises, two bearded dragons, 3 snakes and a frog (in addition to our cat and dog). He built a turtle habitat in our back yard, complete with a pond and small waterfall. Currently our 5 box turtles are sleeping out there, and 9 water turtles are spending the winter in the pond (yes, even with the freezing weather we have been having!). I see most of them almost daily when they come out of the water to sun themselves. I really enjoy eating lunch out there and watching them. It is so peaceful. We keep the rest of the turtles in various tanks and terrariums in the house. Some require a tropical, half land / half water environment, while others prefer deep water for swimming. While most of them are captive bread, many come from parts of Asia and Central America, as well as various parts of the US. It has been a real challenge to learn about each type of turtle, and then to try to provide a habitat as close to their natural habitat as possible. I finally got some pictures to share ... Why not have a look
.
It may seem like all of these pets would take a lot of time to care for. Well, they do. But I have had plenty of time lately, since I got let go from my last job last September, and haven't been able to find another. I have extensive skills in C/C++, VB, Java, and even Pascal and Delphi, and have worked in Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, DOS and OS/2. I have created GUI, TCP/IP, tool control, and client/server applications, but I am just getting started doing programming for the Web. I have sent out hundreds of resumes and am taking classes to update my skill set to include web tools, but for the time being, it looks like I am a full-time Turtle Mom. But, if anyone knows of any possible programming positions.... Check out my resume. And, thanks in advance, for any leads!
