Joshua Tree National Park -- Transportation
The Joshua Tree National Park is located 140 miles east of Los Angeles, California. The traveler can get within 50 miles by air, train or bus, and then must travel by car to the park.
By Air:
The Palm Springs International Airport is the closest major airport to the park, located 46 miles west on Interstate 10. It is serviced by a number of major airlines, including American, Continental, Delta, Northwest and United Airlines, and has car rental facilities. If you wish to see more of southern California during your visit, Southwest Airlines has discount flights to several southern California cities, including Los Angeles, Burbank, Ontario and San Diego.
By Train:
To reach the park by train. take Amtrak to Indio, located 25 miles west on Interstate 10. Indio Amtrak
By Bus:
Commerical bus service is available to Twentynine Palms, located by the Oasis Visitor's Center, about 3 miles north of the park's North Entrance Station.
By Car:
Joshua Tree National Park can be reached by car from the west on either Interstate 10 (I10) or State Highway 62 (Twentynine Palms Highway). On the north side of the park, off of Hwy 62, there are two entrances. One is at Joshua Tree Village and the other is at the city of Twentynine Palms. On the south side of the park, off of I10, there is only one enterance. It is at Cottonwood Spring. Coming from the east, the park can only be reached by Interstate 10, which runs along the southern edge of the park.
